“VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA”
Our vaginas are getting a lot of attention, and not the kind we prefer! From Arizona to Michigan our anatomy is making headlines! There is a lot of concern about the use of our vaginas and they are trying to legislate their use as if it’s a commodity the government actually has the right to rule over! I’m shaking my head. I wonder if we turned the tables and created laws about how and when a man could use his penis, what the consensus would be? A jerk tax perhaps? If you put it into the wrong hole you will be penalized? Would you like it if your boss asked you are you using your penis and that Viagra Rx for being a man whore or making a baby? I have no doubt Rush uses his fair share of Viagra for recreational sex! And seriously WHO CARES? We all fuck or at least wish we were…I’m certain even those puritanical uppities who stand up in all their arrogant glory trying to tell us what we can do with our VAGINAS have sex once in awhile!
The use of Religion in dictating our behavior is way out of line! I don’t affiliate with any religion for very well thought out reasons – I don’t believe they are anything more than human made rules to breed guilt, shame and dependency. Simple as that. And if you ask people about why they go to church you’ll hear two reasons; they look forward to the community feeling and they feel guilty if they don’t. I never hear so I can learn how to be a better person and live my life in love and consciousness. I hear that from yogis who don’t judge or push their spiritual beliefs on anyone else. I digress.
So when I learn the root of a law to make what I do with my vagina either legal or illegal is some human being’s religious beliefs, I get irate! When did they assume responsibility for my body parts? Do they want to know when I’m having my period? Should I ask them how to treat that yeast infection? When I have an orgasm am I going to have to pay a special “recreational use tax”? How far are we going to allow this to go? They won’t stop until they own us. You realize that don’t you?
In Arizona when Debbie Lesko introduced a bill that would allow employers to ask their employees for proof of medical prescription if they seek contraceptives for non-reproductive purposes, such as hormone control or acne treatment”. She wants employers to have the freedom to not cover things they object to morally. Seriously? Our employers should have this right to pass moral judgment on us? What country do we live in? I’m so confused. I thought I lived in the United States of America – the land of the free!
Part of the reason for this hellacious backlash against the VAGINA is the shift in the tide with women’s power. More than 60% of college graduates are women. More than 50% of the medical school students are women. Women are responsible for more and more of household incomes. Why? Perhaps it’s because 50 years ago our fertility was placed into our own hands to manage. It’s well established the primary reason women don’t seek higher education is early unplanned pregnancy. We are more likely to finish college and embark on a career when we exert our ability to choose our reproductive fate. Some people in power find these statistics frightening. How conscious are they? Do they believe if its more difficult for us to control our sexuality and fertility (because we know that controlling sexual urges will never happen) we are less likely to become educated and we’ll stay ignorant and dependent? The old “barefoot and pregnant phenomena”. What do you think?
Women have been fighting against repression for centuries, and now a woman mind you, is trying to take us down the rabbit hole and into the distant past of being without our human right to choose. Even God gave us FREE WILL and doesn’t judge us! In fact, Mike Callton, GOD even made our VAGINA’S, and with some really great purposes in mind! One was to get you into the world and another was to keep you happy while you’re here (providing you swing that way). I’m still in shock that a grown man could be so immature about a universally accepted medical/legal anatomical term describing part of the human body? He has the emotional maturity of a seven year old and he is making laws that affect our lives! Scary!
